Highly recommend this post. It perfectly captures the internal conflicts and mindset shift I’ve gone through over the last 2 years of coding with AI.

@mattiem we’ve collectively made it much faster and cheaper to churn out low-to-medium quality mostly-repetitive code. For parts of the industry that made their money doing this, the cost of production just dropped by an order of magnitude and it’s going to be disruptive. Everywhere else, we need to figure out how to wrangle lots of cheap-to-produce code. Some of that is in ensuring that code is actually fit for production. Some of it is coping with the gap in effort between producing a plausible prototype and producing production-quality code just got a whole lot bigger, so it is likely to get (even) harder to justify the cost of doing it right.
When you work with LLMs, you can also take a different approach towards dependencies. Instead of seeing them as fixed, you can actually just completely integrate them and take ownership. https://chris.eidhof.nl/post/integrating-dependencies-into-llm-assistant-projects/

I spent maybe 30 seconds today clicking on the “Search” in the sidebar wondering why it wouldn’t let me type into it… until I realised that isn’t the search field at all.

I guess I should stop using computers because I apparently can’t tell a heckin text field apart from a button anymore.

@stroughtonsmith If you know, tell it to the Dictionary app team 😅

Nazi Germany didn't start with camps.
It started with loyalty tests, enemies within, attacks on the press, and people saying "this won't last."

It was built while people waited for it to get "bad enough" to matter. Waiting was a decision.

If this feels uncomfortably familiar right now, that's not an accident.

Weird ticks from having been an iOS developer for too long: whenever I happen to look at my iPhone and see that it’s 9:41 AM, I double check with at least two other clocks to see whether it’s really 9:41 AM or I happen to have screen recording or similar enabled on the iPhone.

So basically, whenever it’s actually 9:41 I really don’t trust it. 😅

Always nice to have options
