Human consciousness is a transcendent product of biological evolution. It arose out of deep ecological possibilities of biodiversity, and this new so-called "AI" is its antithesis. These algorithms require grotesque infrastructure that pollute the environment, hoard water, heat their surroundings, consume vast amounts of energy, and loudly disrupt the sounds of nature; all to accumulate wealth by producing a crude caricature of actual intelligence created from robbing society's collective works.
@benlockwood Wow. Yuuuup.

Why do *I* need to fill out a form in order to have my data not sold by an organization like Major League Baseball? Why is the *default* that a corporation gets to just sell my data? America’s so clearly corporations over everything else it’s insane. #mlb #corporations #uspol #USPolitics #usa #america #dataprivacy
@internetarchive fascinating! Saving this for the reading list.
@MemeMedianMode Woah, what odds! I’m new(ish) to Mastodon, searched ultimate frisbee. It popped up random people from all over and then Mark! What’s up, dude? #ultimatefrisbee
@PeterRobison Oh and speaking of consumer power - YES! Don’t get me started on the data mining done with everything we do online. Algorithms trying to hook ya, your data being sold.. the surveillance state basically. Any little push back on “we’ll rent access to everything forever while our data is mined” feels meaningful.
@PeterRobison Also I’ve released music myself in the past & I understand what goes into the creation of the art. There’s not any part of that process that I feel like I deserve to be able to access for free (or for fractions of pennies as the streaming platforms pay). I want to live in a world where artists can make a living, so buying it whenever I can (even if it’s only one album a month or something) just feels good. I’m not a purist. I still stream, but buying too feels right.
@PeterRobison Nice! I’ve been buying high res digital downloads from Qobuz and CDs when I come across the chance to pick up full albums I’ve been wanting. Idk what server I’ll use yet on the digital side (I just play them on my laptop right now), but similar to your Google Play example I’ve had music I really like leave a streaming platform and then there’s no way to listen anymore. All the more reason to buy it to have it forever.
@n0madz congrats! What an accomplishment! đź’Ş
