Another bad air quality day, dang, so much smoke this summer.

Storms took out power for us early yesterday evening. Portable solar battery powered some fans and the refrigerator through the night and had enough juice left to brew some morning coffee as I got the panel setup to start recharging

A while back I got this awesome little BMW i3 for really cheap because its 11yr old & had high milage (120k isn't really that high, but for an EV with a fairly small battery it kinda is) I don't usually charge it to 100% to try to extend its life even more, but did today, and encouraging to see the battery still has nearly its full original range. FWIW the range estimates on this have been surprisingly accurate if not on the low end for the type of around the city driving I do

My daughter who is about to be 6 drew this picture today, I presume inspired by us playing with a little toy disco ball and a flashlight last night, and I am blown away at how cool it is!

My feed had a fuckin vibe today that made me fucking smile

I have been mulling this "Stupid-Americans" post over for a few days now.

https://www.reddit.com/r/thebulwark/comments/1ljbvtw/hottest_take_stupidamericans_are_the_new/

And, look, I get it, "stupid" is reductive, offensive, rude, potentially de-humanizing. But, also, we need to face reality. Some people, like Trump, are deeply.... stupid?!

Modern Nazi types do exist. Wishing some of our opponents are not evil is actually a really bad strategy for any democracy. (consider the Nazi bar analogy.) Is pretending the there aren't "stupid" people also?

Bot-splaining has given me new insight on the grossness of mansplaining.

We'll be seeing so much more of this, I suspect.

Risking being a "not all men" villain, I will echo a thought from a friend with some mild autistic traits -- some degree of what gets labeled mansplaining can be a kind of info-dumping, friendly, well-intentioned, has nothing much to do with gender.

The intention behind some bot-splaining might be similar, i suppose, but still, ick

Perfect day for working outside. #MNastodon #portableSolar

just some beautiful little art works I found scattered around the house last weekend that made me smile.

I can take no credit for this girls amazing outfit choices, but I did get this next size up bike, which was a gift from some generous neighbors, all cleaned and tuned up for her. She'll keep up with the rest of us a little better with these bigger wheels I think. Leveling up!

@aeischeid dude VERY VERY good

but 450W panels would probably bring more power? (okay they weigh 25kg)

also if u are interested in below 2000 bucks 5kW system with lead gel batteries let me know

@aeischeid That’s awesome. We have panels on our house and I keep looking at whole-house batteries because it would be sweet to not have to worry about power outages but, they’re so much money.

@8bit_PK They are not cheap, but have been getting cheaper quickly.

A lot more if you want something hard-wired, but semi portable ones are quite capable!

This 2kWh one for example is expandable to 4kWh https://www.ankersolix.com/products/f2000?ref=3rd_banner1&variant=49702419202378 and showing a price of $1200

How do you like the i3? And in the winter?

@Benhm3 love the i3 so far! Favorite car I have owned, though my Pontiac vibe 6 speed is close second.

Haven't had it though a winter yet, but given I can usually avoid the worst icy or snowy weather by just not going out AND I have a set of winter tires I don't anticipate major issues

@aeischeid what is wrong with the front of your car? It looks like it has 4 headlights??
@greenpepper22 ha! Well it is a bit quirky, but pretty normal amount of headlights. The angle makes it look stranger maybe? Is a Bmw i3 if you're curious

@aeischeid oh I guess that’s just what the car looks like. That is very strange, it looks like two bumpers grafted together with the whole different paint jobs on the two parts

I don’t really know anything about BMWs tho, maybe that’s part of the style/appeal

@aeischeid An 'Ionic Silver' BMW i3, too! I love this color scheme but BMW didn't offer it across the entire 7 year run of the i3. I have one just like it. A wonderful automobile and very quirky. The tires are too skinny but BMW did this to squeeze as many miles out of the primitive battery as they could.

So in a post apocalyptic world when the gas runs out, there'll be no Max Max; only 'Reddy Kilowatt'?

@LovingFalloutLondon1954 Speaking of colors, I hadn't really noticed till today how the blue accents of the car match almost perfectly with the accents on the Anker battery and portable panels. Makes me tempted to try to charge the car off of that setup. probably can't, or not for very long anyway, but it'd be neat if it could!
