@augieray The number of nurses who ended up being some brand of anti-vax was pretty alarming to me.

Definitely called into question this underlying assumption I had that nurses are well educated / smart. Even many doctors... May be smart or well educated in a sense, but for many it is more limited in scope than I previously thought. Maybe a way to say it is they are much more narrowly educated than I had assumed.

Today, humans will fly around the moon.

So let's take a look at what they saw as they left our planet. It's… a lot. And it's amazing.

@mtnrbq65 @elizayer developers sometimes reference the 80/20 rule. And let's say in certain ways LLM code tools can get you through that 80% part faster, but they also have very real risk of making the last 20% even slower.

@swetland I think so!

I don't want to be all "year of the Linux desktop", but as you say, there might be a unique confluence happening.

A) distaste for enshitifying proprietary platforms
B) better-than-ever FOSS options while reaching a level of "just works" that passes some threshold for a bigger set of users
C) a lot of perfectly usable but out-of-support-window hardware available to be repurposed.

@gregdosh @pmbrandvold @TwinCitiesGeek With Ubuntu 26.04 arriving soon, ( along with all the derivatives that base off that - Mint, Pop!_OS, etc.) and the weather getting nice. I am thinking again about this install parties idea.

Interested in a meetup, IRL or virtual, to bounce ideas around for maybe making it actually happen?

Good representation of the inside of my brain

The passive income movement was a fantasy about not having to give a shit. This is a terrible foundation for pretty much anything.

The "Passive Income" trap ate a generation of entrepreneurs

I had coffee last year with a guy - I won't use his real name - who told me he was "building a business." I asked what it did. Dropshipping jade face rollers. I made him say it twice. Jade face rollers. He'd found them on Alibaba for $1.20

It is sort of mind boggling to think about all the JS and browser quirk hacks that would have been needed to get two axis sticky stuff in tables to work well when I was starting out in #webDev. And soon enough, just a few lines of CSS. Wild!

This is true on so many other facets of the web platform these days.

CSS position: sticky now sticks to the nearest scroller on a per axis basis!

If you’ve ever tried to build a data table with a sticky header and a sticky first column, you know the pain. You’d think a simple position: sticky with top: 0 and left: 0 would be enough, but the reality was that only one of both would stick. A recent change to CSS fixes this: position: sticky now plays nice with single-axis scrollers, allowing you to have sticky elements that track different scroll containers on different axes. This change is available in Chrome 148.

A crap-ton of shape() inspiration from none other than @css to help burn your Thursday.

Saw baby great horned owls in their nest at the park today! Parents both nearby. I am no photographer but had to try to capture something.

Also got to see a loon up close. Good nature day!
