@MolemanPeter that's very kind of you, thank you!! Currently we are generously supported by @neuromatch Inc. We also set up an open collective here: https://opencollective.com/neuromatchsocial if in the future someone would like to donate to the ongoing maintenance and moderation of the instance. But for now, we are holding off on requesting/accepting donations there since we haven't called for an instance-wide vote on the different donation bands and also the discussions are temporarily on hold with Neuromatch till the new CEO is officially in office -- we just want to ensure that the donations on open collective don't negatively affect Neuromatch's non-profit status. We'll let the instance know once we have had this discussion

And @manisha and @jonny have been drafting an underlying policy that includes language re: initiating a vote on defederation for a set of reasons that includes a number of the concerns with meta:

That policy hasnt been voted on, so it seems like we should do both. If youd like to write or help write either of those proposals you would be more than welcome. Its not very technical - just "We should suspend threads.net" would be enough for the proposal since the surrounding discussion has plenty of detail.

There is a wiki page that was taken down bc the wiki used to be on neuromatch's main domain that was collecting some of the discussion here as well, we might consider restoring it as a record of arguments made in this discussion, ill set up fine grained page permissions so we can make that visible to logged in users
