Walking the Titanic in 4K.

This is simply stunning. And sad. But holy cow the amount of work that must have gone into this is mind numbing. A couple thoughts:

• The spittoons in the smoking room? YUK.
• The entire mail room at the 15 min mark? WOW.
• The teeny tiny living spaces for the crew. Crazy.

@ai6yr how hard is it to add Morristown, TN (MRX) to your automated NWS posting system? Do all of the offices conform to something that makes it easy? We prepping for a stormy evening here in East TN and I had this thought.

Sure, after his presidency, Jimmy Carter could have just retired to a country club, put out petty diatribes insulting his "enemies," and played lots of golf. Instead, he decided to help build living spaces for people who needed them. He talked the talk and then walked the walk.

This is what it looks like to lead by example.

So you may have noticed that the Twitter login of https://movetodon.org/ is not working at the moment.

According to twitter, the app “has violated Twitter Rules and policies”. I can’t tell much more at the moment since the email they mention never arrived in my inbox.

Movetodon: Finds your Twitter Friends on Mastodon

Edit 2023-02-05: @ElenLeFoll has done a great video on using Debirdify. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMzB2h2noEA

Edit: Twitter has blocked Movetodon. Try one of the other services below.

Given that twitter is going to start charging for api usage next week, but has neglected to give anyone any info about rates, I recommend running https://www.movetodon.org/ one last time while you still can.

None of the migration tools will work after the 8th (give or take some timezones).

Here’s a list of similar services operating as of 2023-02-04

Debirdify https://debirdify.pruvisto.org
Fedifinder https://fedifinder.glitch.me
Twitodon https://twitodon.com
Mastodon Flock https://mastodon-flock.vercel.app

Flock is the easiest to use, despite the hilarious Windows 95 UI. It actually adds the follows to Mastodon, the others export a CSV file which you can import in the import/export section of your Mastodon preferences.

Twitodon found far fewer acounts when I used it (20 vs. 112). I don't recommend it.

Fedifinder scans lists as well. It also will recommend a Mastodon host to use based on where your friends are. (You can use it before you have a Mastodon account.)

Debirdify will search people who follow you as well. And also tells you which services it thinks you should use. Can also read lists, and gives a very long summary. But I get very confused as to what I'm exporting if I also do lists. Basically, if you want to import lists, do them first, they include everyone you follow. Also, don't freak if it just sits there for a while doing nothing--it will refresh the screen eventually (with great charts). But do double check and make sure there isn't an error in there about rate limits--it's hard to spot.

@topher1kenobe *an old. Already reposted for one typo 🤦‍♂️
@topher1kenobe I’m doing the rounds trying to bridge my other follower list, so hello to any old twitter acquaintance 👋

Cannot reiterate this enough:

PLEASE don’t request refunds from Apple for any unused time on your Twitterrific or Tweetbot subscriptions.

It could literally bankrupt small shops like these.

Twitterrific: End of an Era • The Breakroom

Twitterrific has been discontinued. A sentence that none of us wanted to write, but have long felt would need to be written someday. We didn’t expect to be writing it so soon, though, and certainly not without having had time to notify you that it was coming. We are sorry to say that the app’s […]

Iconfactory Blog

First post here for an #introduction.

I’ve had this account since 2018 but spend my time lurking elsewhere online. I’ve redeveloped interest here given recent tech industry news. I‘ve always like the decentralize idea and I am looking forward to possibly finding some cool communities around here.

I write iOS apps, play music, love maps, and spend as much time outdoors as I can. I also live in a perpetual state of exhaustion from having small children, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
