My entry for #NaNoGenMo:

"████ ██ Ishmael"

Take one #MobyDick and black out all repeated words, preserving punctuation. We show each word on its first occurrence, but all subsequent appearance are replaced with █ characters.

The book starts out with lots of words showing, and just a few blacked out, but quickly obscures the most common words.

The runs of two words are somewhat poetic, as only infrequent words pepper the final pages.

Inspired by @leonardr's ████, here's my quick get-something-out-of-the-way entry so I can spend the rest of the month on something else. Oh wait... I have a feeling someone may have done so...

I was impressed by "Jodorowsky's Tron" and with the rapid improvements in AI art, thought I could have the AI do an animated version.

I didn't reckon on how far it would go to animate something. Or re-animate, I should say.

Following up on my previous post about #moderation in the #fediverse — here’s a thought experiment. What if every admin personally knew everyone on their instance? Which would change traffic a lot.
This is all kind of ill-formed. I'm still thinking it through.
I deal with the meatspace equivalent of moderation in my volunteer role, and I have some thoughts about #moderation and #defederation in the #fediverse :

I'm on the board of a regional burn, Burning Flipside. We have to deal with banning people and it's the hardest, most time-consuming thing we do. There are some analogies to Mastodon bans and defederations that might be useful. One illuminating difference is that our ban list is private: we treat i

We haven't been able to beat Covid-19 because we're all breathing the same air. My new startup, SureSpire, will fix that: SureSpire will provide you with a regular supply of filtered, bottled air guaranteed pure*, all at a reasonable price.

Where will this air come from? SureSpire will pump all the air on the planet into its patented holding chambers in strategic locations around the globe, filtering it before putting it into storage. #DisruptBreathing

I just noticed here: https://www.comeetie.fr/galerie/mapstodon/ that there's a cat-themed masto instance: https://toot.cat/about -- maybe this instance is redundant after all.

I'm already in the fediverse as @adamrice , here's my #introduction for this instance.

Interested in #bikes #cycling , especially #RoadCycling & #UltraCycling , also #BurngingMan but more than that #RegionalBurns especially #BurningFlipside . I read a lot of #sf and spend too much time on #metafilter . I'm a #japanese #translator for my day job. Longtime resident of #AustinTX .
