In 2024, the GDAL User Survey solicited feedback to help focus GDAL Sponsorship Program activities. Your contribution mattered. Last years' results triggered the project to embark on the GDAL CLI Modernization effort which the project released this year in GDAL 3.11 and 3.12. This year's survey provides guidance for steering deployment of sponsorship resources by echoing 2024's while focusing on topics such as LLM usage, security remediation, fundraising, and more. Updating talk slides so you all get to be horrified along with me at the current Starlink numbers.
There are now 7,652 Starlink satellites in orbit (>500 more than there were in February, when I last updated these particular slides).
2-3 Starlinks per day are burning up in the atmosphere. That's a lot of weird metal in the atmosphere (and undoubtedly lots of random bits getting to the ground too).
Starlink is a stupidly wasteful and dangerous way to use orbit.

Vom 02. – 08.12.2024 hat die FOSS4G 2024 in Belém stattgefunden. Panorama City Belém Brasilien Aus 31 verschiedenen Ländern sind Open Source Software Enthustiastinnen nach Belem gereist, um an den Workshops teilzunehmen, den Vorträgen und Diskussionen zu lauschen und sich mit anderen auszutauschen. Die Opening-Session in drei Sprachen, Portugisisch, Spanisch und Englisch war beeindruckend. Eine wichtige Aussage war, dass die große Leidenschaft für FOSS, Technik, Geoanalysen hilft den globalen Veränderungen zu begegnen.
