@davespice yes, some companies glue the components to the bottom side of double sided boards before they go through the solder machine/oven so they don’t fall off. Here the resistor was glued to the pad so a bigger than normal joint was made at the other end but this one didn’t form properly.
So I finally got around to recapping the #SEGA MegaDrive v1 that I was working on. It originally had a problem with the 8-bit sound not working. I cleaned everything with IPA, removed the old caps and cleaned a bit more. @_B_ took a look with his microscope and found one SMD resistor on the bottom which was not properly connected (and fixed it). After putting the new caps and voltage regulators on I am delighted to report that it is now working correctly! ✊

@davespice @PhilipKing the serial number suggests it should have an issue 3 or 4 PCB, but as you can see, it’s an issue 2. The service centres were known to replace customer returns with a board they had fixed from another return to make the turnaround quicker. Going off the sticker and the serial number discrepancy, I think it has been sent for repair at some point. 3 of the lower RAM chips have been socketed, suggesting that they have been replaced.
@PhilipKing @davespice yeah, factory fitted ceramic RAM is rarely seen in Spectrums and I don’t have any spares in my stock, only plastic packages, so I hope these are OK. I did see some for sale recently though.
Have just been given this #ZXSpectum to repair, needs a new keyboard membrane, a recap and a good clean. Will be getting a lot of help from @_B_
@davespice how about now?
Mastodon was brought to my attention with a post about an Apple IIc client for it on another platform.
So here I am. I will explore it while I’m away on business then see if I can get my Apple IIc connected at the weekend. #AppleIIc #Apple][ #Apple2
