If you've not yet read Aimé Césaire's "Discourse on colonialism" I highly recommend it. It dates back to the '50s but some of the themes it covers are still painfully actual. In particular the attitude of superiority of the former colonial powers toward the rest of the world still persists to this day. Our modern prosperity has been built at the expense of everybody else, yet we can't even acknowledge it.
