BlueSky seems to have more momentum right now but being able to remove followers, mute accounts, and filter words make Mastodon the only platform I'm even remotely interested in.

Open Source Software is wonderful, really, but I just needed to open a large CSV file. I tried opening it in LibreOffice, but it needed to update to the latest version, then I had to answer some questions about the CSV format, then it told me I have to reboot to complete the installation, so it still didn't open the file.

I opened sheets.new, imported the 21.5Mb CSV file, and found the information I wanted, all before the installation of the LibreOffice update even completed.

During an online video meetup, a proponent of "daily affirmation" _encouraged_ me to "be nice" to myself when I asked a question then immediately acknowledged that I should probably take the time to go and find the documentation myself.

The same person, a few minutes later, became visibly upset when I made an incorrect observation during his presentation then asked me, please, not to do that again.

Draw your own conclusions but I'm not feeling _encouraged_ or "nice". I'll take sincerity and criticism any day of the week over "affirmation". I'll always have more respect for people who acknowledge their mistakes (and mine). And I will endeavor to ensure that they are comfortable making them around me.

I'm American, but I live in Malaysia and speak Malay fluently. Malay is very similar to Indonesian.

My wife is Malaysian.

I've been able to communicate pretty easily with Indonesians before, but I think that may be because they're more familiar with the subtle differences between BM & BI and they adapted to me.

On a whim, I searched Google for "megalomaniacal billionaire".

I'm sure you can guess who the subject of every entry on the first page of results was.

For the record, I avoid politics like the plague and don't waste my time stressing over corporate behaviors, either. Still, mindful of the dreaded algorithm, I repeated the search in a private window and got pretty much the same results.

On DuckDuckGo I got much more sensible results about the mental condition or articles presenting general disdain for the class of people. Let's face it, though... Elon is who I had in mind. Google still always provides the best search results for me.
