Temperature-driven changes in traits of European birds are also influenced by other factors

Studies that observe physical and behavioural changes in wild species over periods of rising temperature rarely evaluate the role of climate change in relation to simultaneous changes of other environmental factors. This study applied a novel approach to long-term datasets on European birds to quantify the contribution of other factors to observed changes over past decades. The researchers say that just over half of observed effect was due to rising temperatures, with other factors mostly accentuating these impacts.

Universal ‘chasing arrows’ recycling symbol could be dumped in US.

Environmental groups are pushing for an end to the blanket use of the logo, too, claiming that its use amounts to “greenwashing” by companies.

I was searching for images for a talk yesterday, & discovered that you can pull up vivid "warming stripes" from UK meteorologist Ed Hawkins for every US state and for regions around the world. This is Washington state, where I live. Red years are hotter than average. Yeah it’s sobering but it gives us all a common starting point for talking about what’s happening. #climate https://showyourstripes.info

Mechanical basis and topological routes to cell elimination

Using self-organization, cells can collectively leverage defects in nematic and hexatic orders to localize mechanical stresses and remove an unwanted cell with their preferred path to achieve this explored here by independently tuning cell–cell and cell–substrate adhesion strengths.
