This week, more than 70 Republicans in Congress proposed permanently extending the Trump tax cuts. The bill would add an estimated $3 trillion to the deficit.

Don't be fooled. Republicans in Congress don't care about the deficit. They want tax cuts for their wealthy donors.

@kairyssdal Sophomore in high school, about to get changed for gym class. I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea that the shuttle had exploded. I thought people were mistaken.
I wanted to hide my crow's feet, so I got him some little shoes.
Just trying to boost the signal: This animal shelter in Mount Vernon, NY is being closed by the city at the end of January. They’ve still got a couple dozen cats and dogs who need furever homes. Please check them out if you’re looking for a new companion. If you’re not looking for one, please help spread the word. Thank you. https://www.mvanimalshelter.com/home

How to Use Mastodon, the Social-Media Platform Blocked by Elon Musk’s Twitter

Mastodon could be the future of social media—if you can figure it out

Wall Street Journal

The reason Mastodon and the Fediverse is spread out on so many servers is it protects it from being taken over by anyone. Not even the richest can buy this place.

Centralised services like Twitter are incredibly easy to buy out. If you move from Twitter to another centralised service, sooner or later that will get bought out too.

The point of the Fediverse is to break this buyout cycle, to let people be permanently in control of their accounts. More info here:

It's incredibly telling how many people are more upset that Qatar is banning the sale of beer in World Cup stadiums than about the deaths of thousands of migrants while building them, or the vast number of human rights abuses which are ongoing.
If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.
If you have pets that you regularly post on social media, you need to know that a) I love them, b) they are also my pets and c) we are in a long distance relationship.
