By giving former Book Review editor Pamela Paul a weekly column, the NYT is feeding a grievance-based ideology that harms trans and other marginalized people. Paul never directly attacks trans people. But her repeated returns to anti-trans themes and anti-trans sources reveals a clear agenda that has more in common with Marjorie Taylor Greene than Paul, or the Times, would ever care to admit.

Just poked my head in to see how things are going over on the birdsite, and I think it’s safe to say that “boneheadedly unironic anti-trans rhetoric spun as ‘just trying to have a conversation’ from cis male athletes famous for being (a.) genetic anomalies or (b.) massive self-doping cheaters” pretty well sums it up.

I miss a lot of folks over there, but holy yikes do I not miss the dump fire I’d have to put up with to be there.

Also on my wishlist: I don't want to be part of some vortex of enshittification (the way .social seems to be going), and I'd like more than 500 characters.

That's along with all the basics, like "must think trans girls are actual human beings worthy of respect" and "must not want to suck off fascists" and so on.

I wouldn't think those would even need to be said... and yet, here we are.

I know I'm not paying (much) for this platform, but I'd sure I'd love it if I could find a fedi instance that won't spontaneously combust (like mastodon.lol did) or be limited or suspended by half the servers with people I actually want to talk to (like eightpoint.app and mastodon.social have), AND that will actually load and function (which my other home instance has been having some difficulties with recently).

These don't seem like onerous requirements.

And yet, here we are.
