Julie HollarBy giving former Book Review editor Pamela Paul a weekly column, the NYT is feeding a grievance-based ideology that harms trans and other marginalized people. Paul never directly attacks trans people. But her repeated returns to anti-trans themes and anti-trans sources reveals a clear agenda that has more in common with Marjorie Taylor Greene than Paul, or the Times, would ever care to admit.
The Times gave Paul the high-profile gig in April to “write about what people really think and believe but are often too afraid to say”—i.e., to express prejudices some who consider themselves liberals are often ashamed to have. Paul delivers, over and over. She has now published, by my count, at least 5 columns vilifying trans people or the trans movement in the few short months she’s been writing.
