Remote Area Nurse interested in Permaculture, PKM, sustainable living, bees, ducks, guinea fowl and growing food (she/her). Recently moved to Lutruwita.

Any journalists want to write an article about all the environmental costs of the more than 10,000 Starlinks that are now in orbit? All I'm seeing are breathless articles mindlessly worshiping That Awful Billionaire for crossing the 10,000 satellite mark.

Every single one of those will come down in an uncontrolled reentry. That's a lot of metal in the atmosphere, and a lot of dice-rolling to see if any more pieces will make it to the ground.

SpaceX is truly awful.

Even iets moois, dat hebben we nodig!

Late last year many residents of our building formed a neighbor-owned company in order to add a solar array to our roof! A few days ago they got the final panels installed. It’s not turned on yet, but seeing this much progress made me so proud! 🤩

Too wound up to go to bed, so I just sent lots of emails to people hoping that they'll spread the word and get lots more people to write comments to the FCC telling them that orbital data centres and sunlight-as-a-service are incredibly stupid, dangerous ideas and should never be launched.

Instructions how to submit here: https://darksky.org/news/two-satellite-proposals-threaten-the-night-sky-the-window-to-act-is-now/

I don't think it'll actually make a big difference. But I do think it's incredibly important that the official record shows how many opposed this.

One of the things I like about growing your own food is the way it imposes slow tasks on you. Podding peas is one example. I remember my Opa podding peas when I was little. Today I harvested peas, slid my nail along the seam, coaxed the little green gems out into a bowl, and ate them. It's a small thing but it made me think about my Opa, the peas were sweet and delicious, and you don't get that from a can.

“What do you have to hide?“

Everything.

Full stop. Period.

Every. Thing.

What I had for breakfast is my choice to put out in the world.

Who I love, who my friends are, what we talk about, the books I read, the websites I visit, my favourite animal, my choice of shoelaces.

It. Does. Not. Matter. How. “Big”. Or “Small”.

Every. Thing.

It’s all up to me to decide who I want to share anything with.

Well, everyone, you can now submit a comment to let the FCC know what you think about SpaceX asking for 1 million satellites for "AI datacenters" whatever the fuck that means.

https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-26-113A1.pdf

Comments due March 6.

I am having a very hard time believing this is really happening. Fuck you, SpaceX, and fuck you, FCC. This is not regulation, this is a fucking joke, that will destroy our ability to use satellites for centuries.

Captured this beautiful moment of 'komorebi' (Japanese word for sunlight filtering through the trees) near Raven's Rock yesterday. 🌲✨

The most important power station in the nation is no longer a coal plant – it’s on our rooftops

Australia’s electricity grid is increasingly being powered by rooftop solar, batteries and renewables, exposing the limits and rising costs of ageing coal-fired power stations.
