A culture that crams and rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time.

Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act.

Listen to full albums, too.

Just listen: don’t just put music on as background noise. Pick a good album, and find a quiet place with a decent enough stereo or headphones (preferably not earbuds). Grab a cup of tea or a beer or a whiskey (whatever your sipping beverage of choice), get comfy, and really listen to the music.

When you were in grade school did your music teacher have you listen to music (say, “Peter and the Wolf”) and try to pick out the instruments? I hope so. Do that. Appreciate the interplay of instruments and vocals. Really listen to the lyrics (if it has them) if you haven’t before.

One of the tragedies of today is that people have basically all recorded music at their fingertips, but relegate it to background noise.

Morning worked in my hotel, made a trip to meet collaborators briefly, had lunch with them at the cafeteria. One showed me a pic of Jonangu taken yesterday, & on my 18 min train ride back to Sannomiya - looked up Jonangu location (it was in my bookmarks) & saw that it is 90 mins away with a rapid express from Sannomiya. Sped to hotel, dropped computer off, picked up camera and made it to the 2:07. Was at Jonangu at 3:40. Spent an excellent 45mins there! #Kyoto #Japan #Bloomscrolling #DasJP26

NASA uses a value of π = 3.141592653589793 with 15 decimal digits for interplanetary navigation.

Calculating the circumference of the circle with radius = 32 billion km, slightly larger than the distance of the Voyager 1 spacecraft, and π with 15 digits, gives an error of just 1.5 cm.

Calculating the circumference of the Universe with radius = 46 billion light years, with an accuracy equal to the diameter of a hydrogen atom, requires 37 decimal digits.
