Standing stone alignments at Carnac, Brittany, on a spring evening. (2015)

One of my favourite stones anywhere for #StandingStoneSunday - Maen Llia, a magnificent slab of sandstone in the upper reaches of the Llia/Mellte valley, Fforest Fawr.

It stands between the Fan Llia and Fan Nedd mountains, near a stream, which it reputedly drinks from at midnight. There are several other monuments (cairns, earthworks) nearby. It's quite a trek to get to using buses, from any direction.

This visit, my first, April 2010.

For #StandingStoneSunday, this #lichen covered, approximately 2m high sentinel overlooking #ClogherStrand, in the #Dingle Peninsula, County #Kerry, #Ireland. I actually couldn't tell whether this was a truly ancient stone, or whether it had been put there by an enterprising tourist facility owner, as the base around the stone has been reinforced. The view over the #bay to the volcanic headland in the background is spectacular, if you ignore the tearoom nearby!

Today’s #StandingStoneSunday photos are so old, they’re scans of actually-had-to-get-them-developed photographs.

This is the wonderful Tyrebagger recumbent stone circle in #Aberdeenshire. The photos were taken in 2000, on a typically Scottish dreich day.
