One of my favourite stones anywhere for #StandingStoneSunday - Maen Llia, a magnificent slab of sandstone in the upper reaches of the Llia/Mellte valley, Fforest Fawr.

It stands between the Fan Llia and Fan Nedd mountains, near a stream, which it reputedly drinks from at midnight. There are several other monuments (cairns, earthworks) nearby. It's quite a trek to get to using buses, from any direction.

This visit, my first, April 2010.

@thesweetcheat Just a great stone in a great location. I'd love to visit one day. I love seeing photos of it, just makes me want to go more.
@Spaceways it's wonderful, and you really need to climb mountains to visit it!
@thesweetcheat one of my favourite places. Yes, it drinks from the river on mid summer's eve. 😁
@MikeInTheGarden it's brilliant isn't it? I've only been 3 times, it's a bit of a trek over at least one mountain (or probably two) from either Glyntawe or Storey Arms. Must go back again though.
@thesweetcheat Such a fabulous stone, quite close to me, but I have only visited once, I must go back.
@TallulahBass it's a beauty, pick a nice day!
@thesweetcheat From the far away photo this looks like a trek but well worth it when you get close. Ok, worth it even from afar because the open field looks peaceful and serene.
