I'm finally allowed to say this on the record: The Georgia Tech SGA is looking into reopening the 3rd street tunnel (dark blue) for students to access campus from Midtown. The tunnel had been closed apart from gamedays since 2008 due to "security concerns". This would create the first dedicated pedestrian/ #bike crossing of the 7.5-mile long I-75/85 Downtown Connector stretching from Atlantic Station to Downtown and the Airport.

If, like me, you are on mastodon.social, consider becoming a monthly supporter. There are over 200,000 people on this instance, with fewer than 9000 currently supporting it on Patreon. The current fundraising goal is $50,000 per month, with about $32,000 raised. If enough of us kick in a buck a month we can hit that goal easily. Go here to contribute, if you can: https://www.patreon.com/mastodon

Did you know that any law or test you create for gender in sports, cisgender people will fail as well?

Hormones? Some cis women have "male" levels.

Chromosomes? 1996 Olympics tried that. 10 cis women had XY w/intersex conditions.

Genitals? Ambiguity exists.

Furthermore do we really want to start inspecting the genitals, internal and external, of every athlete?

Birth certificates? They get changed.

Now that we are entering a new level of mastodon, let's share more advanced tips! 'use debirdify!' and 'follow hashtags!' are cool, but for example, did you know you can share and import block lists?!

The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, CNN and Associated Press have all posted guides to using Mastodon, which in turn have been syndicated by numerous local news outlets. That matters. We're rapidly approaching a situation where the media will refer to things happening "on Mastodon" the way they referred to Twitter in, say, 2013.

Did you try to answer the poll about CSS Nesting last Thursday or Friday, but couldn’t because the poll seemed to be closed?

Well, it wasn’t closed… it was cached. 😞 Caching was jumping in there and messing everything up.

After multiple attempts at making the caching not apply to this article, including eventually tearing down the whole build system & creating it again from scratch on Friday — ta da! The article about CSS Nesting is no longer cached, the poll is open!

Help choose the syntax for CSS Nesting

The CSS Working Group is continuing a debate over the best way to define nesting in CSS.

I reviewed David Correia and Tyler Wall’s fantastic edited volume Violent Order: Essays on the Nature of Police (out through @haymarketbooks) for Race and Class.

It’s an important book that sheds a lot of light on how police fabricate order and produce and maintain the conditions for capital accumulation and environmental domination — especially relevant for shroomies (what are we calling PM users??) https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/03063968221142217
