I'm finally allowed to say this on the record: The Georgia Tech SGA is looking into reopening the 3rd street tunnel (dark blue) for students to access campus from Midtown. The tunnel had been closed apart from gamedays since 2008 due to "security concerns". This would create the first dedicated pedestrian/ #bike crossing of the 7.5-mile long I-75/85 Downtown Connector stretching from Atlantic Station to Downtown and the Airport.

I'm not kidding when I say that there are no dedicated crossings for I-75/85 TP! (h/t MayorofMARTA; The Baker-Highland Connector also carries vehicles).

As I said on Twitter in the past, even back in 2013, Georgia Tech's East Campus Housing Sector Plan calls for the long-term reopening of the tunnel, and converting 3rd Street into a car-free, major pedestrian corridor. Well, a decade later, that future is now.
