An incisive examination of how growth-at-all-costs planning and policy have exacerbated inequality and racial division in Atlanta. Atlanta, the capital of the American South, is at the red-hot core of expansion, inequality, and political relevance. In recent decades, central Atlanta has experienced heavily racialized gentrification while the suburbs have become more diverse, with many affluent suburbs trying to push back against this diversity.
I am looking forward to speaking (remotely) at the University of Texas at San Antonio's School of Architecture and Planning later this month. Particularly happy that the event is co-sponsored by the Urban Planning Student Association.
Grove Park in Atlanta, a predominantly Black neighborhood near City's new Westside Park & Mark Texiera's proposed "Quarry Yards" mixed-use dev't, the land for which was sold to Microsoft in 2020, has seen home values ⏫by >1,000% from Jan 2013 to Jan 2023 (vs. 211% citywide over same period).
Why doesn’t the
