#Agroecology, as not just a production system but a response to an unjust #foodsystem, is rising in Canada. Informative new report here: #sustainability #justice #foodsecurity https://researchcentres.wlu.ca/centre-for-sustainable-food-systems/news/2023/agroecology-report

Howdy. I'm trying to find a place on the internet where I can be myself, and find folx with similar interests.

I am a climate and ecology oriented farmer, working with organic livestock and tree crops in the Midwest US. My focus is on ecosystem stewardship and community resilience, but mostly navigating surviving as a food grower and living simply. Trying to write some.

Not a natural with digital tech, but I'm pretty good with a pitchfork.

My new year's resolution was to free this lady trapped in my wallpaper but my husband's being a real dick about it
Dandelion, refracted. I like this one because it shows an 'old' flower that almost appears to be dreaming of younger days, with the full-bloom flower refracted through the water droplet. I think it might be one of my favorite photos I've ever taken. (though still some technical aspects I'd like to improve upon...) #PhotoMonday #photography #macro #flowers #reflection #water #WSSA23 #weeds #weedscience
OK, we've migrated here from The Other Place. Now I'm hearing about Spoutible. Has anyone peeked in there, or have a connection who's tried it out?
(Sheesh, I sound like I'm asking about the best shroom dealer.)
If you asked me which was more memorable for me, a microwaved meal or a Pop-Tart, I'd have to go with the Pop-Tart. #tiredcook

The best summation of what the music represented as a cultural movement in Brazil is by ethnomusicologist Suzel Reily: "While samba-canção privileged the quasi-operatic voice of an exotic star dancing merrily in front of a big band, possibly even wearing a pineapple, the sophisticated bossa nova interpreters in black turtlenecks merged their soft spoken voices to a single guitar..."

Also, on a historical context note: the whiplash between the political unrest that Brazil saw on January 8th and celebrating bossa nova this week is reminding me of what happened to effectively end bossa nova as a movement in Brazil in March of 1964.

A couple of weeks ago I finished a four page comic for Soil4U, an organization that promotes regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, and conversation and cooperation between landowners, farmers and citizens to stimulate local economies and healthy environments in the Netherlands. The subject matter is a bit abstract so they wanted a fun comic that shows a practical example. There's even going to be a part two!

I just had a great interview with a guy in Spain whose job it is to help farmers transition to #RegenerativeAgriculture from traditional plow and chemical based agriculture. Great inspiration for a monday morning. :)
