#California now has the worldâs 4th largest GDP, behind only the entire US, China, and Germany.
But on a per-capita basis, California is far ahead of the pack.
Billion$ per million people:
California: 105.1
US: 85.8
Germany: 55.3
China: 13.1
Only two countries have higher GDP/capita figures:
1. Luxembourg: 140.9
2. Ireland: 108.9
But they have *tiny* GDP compared to California.
EDIT: It appears that readers of this post perceive that Iâm citing GDP per capita as a measure of median prosperity, and IT IS NOT. In fact, GDP itself is not a measure of prosperity, only a measure of how much goods and services are made available for sale (i.e. volume of âbusinessâ). So take this with the same amount of salt as when the IMF talks about a nationâs GDP. GDP is business, not happiness.
