Web developer with an accessibility fetish by day.

Have a book downloading in my brain all night, every night. Struggling to get it out and onto a screen.

I'm hoping someone, somewhere, knows of this and can help me out.

Is there an npm package that can be added to an app, that can identify what accessibility settings a user has enabled and possibly be sent to BigQuery?

I'm trying to explain to my co-workers that more people use accessibility settings than they think (we've already been bitten by two major bugs this year related to those settings) and it would be helpful to be able to collect that data

Today I discovered https://www.whocanuse.com and I wanted to yell it to the world, but 56 people will have to do.
WhoCanUse

A tool that brings attention and understanding to how color contrast can affect people with different visual impairments.

Granny Weatherwax: "sin, young man, is when you treat people like things. Including yourself. That's what sin is."
Mightily Oates: "It's a lot more complicated than that--"
"No. It ain't. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they're getting worried that they won't like the truth. People as things, that's where it starts."
"Oh, I'm sure there are worse crimes--"
"But they starts with thinking about people as things..."

I love this method to teaching folks about how to use prompt-driven AI by putting structure around how they are expected to use it. The different prompting approaches were spot-on too.

My class required AI. Here's what I've learned so far.

(Spoiler alert: it has been very successful, but there are some lessons to be learned)

This is going to be interesting. Senator Markey is asking Musk about the accessibility team he got rid of.

Could be an even bigger incentive for private business if the Senate starts taking an interest.

Kudos to Sen. Markey for going after Elon Musk on his destruction of Twitter's #a11y team https://www.markey.senate.gov/news/press-releases/senator-markey-demands-musk-reinstate-twitters-accessibility-team-online-features-for-users-with-disabilities

And by sensibility I mean a combination of factors. Does a voice notices one type of thing over the other. Do they walk into a room and describe the art on the wall or the view out the window or the style of furniture or the tension between people? Do they notices smells or sounds or colors or textures? Is their language poetic or scientific or plain?

A thing could be described any number of ways, but we learn about a character by the particular aspects they notice.

The #a11y hashtag is harmful to the #accessibility cause. As we start afresh on Mastodon, it’s time to let it die https://mosen.org/a11yharm/
The #a11y hashtag is harmful to the #accessibility cause. As we start afresh on Mastodon, it’s time to let it die

With so many of us with accessibility needs having made the move to mastodon recently, the divisive question of the #a11y hashtag has been raised once again. I’d like to offer an updated version of…

Wired's review of the Antisemitic wizarding game replaces the "buy now" link with a donation link for Trans Lifeline. Spectacular.

(Great review, too)

Review: There Is No Magic in 'Hogwarts Legacy'

The game is mid at best, and its real-world harms are impossible to ignore.

Thanks to @buercher for building it.

It's opt-in, not opt-out. It respects Mastodon culture and doesn't index accounts that don't sign in.

That means the index might be small if we don't spread the word.
