Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them.

It has been a bad flu year though - obviously far worse than last two years where there was barely any flu, but also worse than the two years pre pandemic. Also much shorter - but perhaps there's a second kick in the tail. Let's hope not.
Ambulance handover delays continue to be far worse than previous years - even at height of pandemic. When the next broader NHS metrics are released, expect to see record A&E waits and elective waiting lists - esp as so many elective operations have been cancelled this winter.

Did anyone see this Hallelujah paragraph in the New York Times today? Here's the part we celebrate. (Context is the current melt down of the Republican party...)

"That ideology of destruction defies characterization by traditional political labels like moderate or conservative."

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/05/us/politics/republican-party-leadership.html

Did you hear that? The Times politics desk is now admitting that "conservative" is not a good name for the MAGA forces overtaking the GOP.

And it only took 12 years!

Republican Party Stumbles Through the Wilderness With No Clear Leaders

With no unified agenda or clear leadership, Republicans face the prospect that the anti-establishment fervor that has powered the party in recent years could now devour it.

Apropos of nothing, I once worked at an organization alongside with between four people I’d call somewhat or complete sociopaths. One was a clear pathological liar. I wasn’t scammed or much impacted by them, fortunately (I was on the periphery of their lies and scams) but it instilled a strong detector of this kind of behavior. When sociopaths are cornered, they often act like rabid badgers. They can only run their lives when they can ignore consequences. #ReceptioGate
