I was surprised by the single junco. I don’t usually see them until mid December at the earliest. I guess this one got an early start or is traveling with the sparrows.

I just learned that crabgrass seeds make up a huge part of their diet, so it’s no wonder I have flocks of them every winter šŸ˜…. It’s an invasive plant, so ideally I should try to find a native species to replace it that would still be a food source.

Got up this morning with a list of tasks I wanted/needed to do before I left the house today. It did not include staring out the kitchen window for 45 minutes watching a flock of robins (plus a few sparrows, starlings, and the seasons 1st junco ā˜ŗļø) going to town on the berry-like cones of my cedar tree. It was an absolute pleasure.

The cedar is nearly 20’ tall, and it came up as a volunteer 15-18years ago. Cardinals, robins, and wrens nest in it every year. I’d love to have at least 6 more.

Interesting review of countertop composters. They grind and dry food waste, but don’t match true compost in their end product.

Ended up with 9 bags total. If you’d like to see both sides and linings of each, there is a video at the tumblr link. It was too big to post here directly. Also, the video doesn’t have descriptions of each bag. Sorry.

A New Old Hobby

Charity sewing today. I’ve been slowly turning thread clippings and scrap fabric into new fabric for some time. About a month ago, I cut the panels into smaller pieces and added denim so I could use…

I was originally planning these to be pieced on the front with solid denim on the back, but since they won’t be going to Montana, I decided to just make them double sided instead. It uses up a majority of the me-made fabric collage that is the center panel of each piece, and I can save my larger denim cuts for other projects.
