Hi! I’m Rowan (they/them or person/per). Transitioning femme enby. I’m still emerging, so I don’t have much to say yet. Watch this space for updates! I’ll post a new intro when I have a better idea of who I am. Also, living under a bigoted dictator, I’m scared to share too much, even here.

@BernieDoesIt @glitzersachen @burnoutqueen @xgranade @anyia @alice Former Unix geek, read the jargon file before it became the hackers dictionary, ran a BBS in 1984, Delphi, compuserve and all the pre-Internet stuff, setup a Usenet node in 1983, newgroup’ed on alt. back before the Backbone Cabal. Got the first spam from the green card lawyers. Hung out in muds and mushes and moos in the early 90’s, etc. so yeah, most of the net lingo we created.
Don’t try to search for me though. Both my first and last names are different now.

I have been guysplained to more times for this one post than in my whole previous history on Fedi.

If you're mad about "y'all", you missed the point of the post.

If you're looking up the etymology of "guy", you missed the point of the post.

If you're telling me that *you* don't think "guys" is a gendered term, you missed the point of the post.

If you're saying "dude, it's just a word", you're kind of a dick.

If you're thinking that "maybe `cisheteronormative white man` shouldn't be the default assumption just because they hold a disproportionate share of power and oppressors often influence language so as to make it seem like their way is the only sane way", then...damn, you *were* paying attention!

If you're like "omg, so much this", omg, ikr?? 🫂🫂

If you're typing out "I'll try to do better", thank you, that's all we ask 💝

@BernieDoesIt @glitzersachen @burnoutqueen @xgranade @anyia @alice I’m 62 and I’ve been using the word “chat” like this for years. Usage skews very online, yes, but not young. I’ve been chatting with people online since 1983. And using “chat” to mean “folks” since the the turn of the millenium at least.

@xvf17 I haven’t stepped foot in an airplane since 2014. And I don’t see any good reasons to change that. I can’t justify the carbon pollution. I can’t stomach the labor abuses. I don’t need to go anywhere that fast. IMHO, the world doesn’t need travel that fast. Nor can we afford it if we want to leave a planet to future generations.
I do miss international travel, and I yearn for a day when we could have safe and ubiquitous airship travel, or at least modern oceangoing passenger ships using wind and solar. Until then, I’m stuck on this continent, and have to choose between its absurdly insufficient passenger rail and bus or going by private automobile.
