Lidl is experimenting with closing the conveyor belt checkouts and forcing everyone to use the self-service terminals.

Fine if you're buying a snack for lunch, but if you're there for your twice-monthly bulk shopping with an overloaded shopping trolley you can forget about that, inefficient, error-prone and not enough space.

It still can't handle buying a carton full of anything. Will leave the full shopping cart standing there next time and walk out buying nothing in protest. Customer feedback.

Not to mention a lot of old folk struggling to even do it at all, then the exit gate not letting them leave.

No wonder I see most of them shop at Iki instead where there's a friendly cashier that chats about the weather while scanning your items for you.

I feel like I'm such a pessimist, but somehow every time I get a message explaining to me how a club or loyalty program I'm part of is changing, it starts with a statement that they're making it more streamlined and want to offer me better benefits, but then when I read through the description, I can not spot a single thing in my consuming behavior that got better benefits.

It's like telling me that instead of this pizza, we baked a dog turd for you. Bon apetit!
