Some clients act as though paying an invoice two months late is no big deal.
For them, it's paperwork.
For me, it's rent, bills, my daughter, and wondering whether I can afford to keep offering the flexibility and kindness I try to extend to people. How do I justify pro bono work for people and causes that matter to me while lacking money myself?
The people who pay late are often the same people who quietly make generosity more difficult.
Today's rant: Coinstar machines.
I continue to pay cash where I can. I generally just chuck any shrapnel less than 20p in a jar, and go to a supermarket when it's full.
The Coinstar machine at Tesco took 9% last time I used it. Went again this week, and it's now 11.99% plus a 49p charge on top!
So for my roughly £20 turns out as £17.11 instead, so actually 14.4%!
They don't even drop it much if you donate to charity instead.

You charge £35 for a webcam I can get on eBay for £25 with free shipping, but I could save myself the £3.99 shipping fee you add if I paid £15.99 a month.
I only order from Amazon if I can't get what I want elsewhere, which is maybe once or twice a year.
