The M5 Globular Cluster

M5 has an apparent magnitude of 6.7 and a location 25,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens. The cluster is about 80 light years across and contains around 100,000 stars. It contains at least 105 variable stars as well as two millisecond pulsars!

Despite some stubborn clouds, I caught the International Space Station transiting the Sun today.

We have a fascinating interview with #astronomy legend Dame Jocelyn Bell-Burnell. Discoverer of #pulsars and passionate advocate of women in science. #astrodon

Last call for Orion Nebula.. the setting of Orion early in the evening sky marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring.

This is the nearest star-forming region to Earth at 1,500 light years, and many new stars are forming inside its gas and dust clouds.

Shot with 4.6 hours of exposure at Lake Sonoma, CA. #astrophotography

Very enjoyable talk today by Paul Evans in Armagh Planetarium for Irish Astronomy Week.

Happy Spring! Today, at 4:24 p.m. CDT, the Sun will move northward across the celestial equator at a point marking the vernal equinox. This marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere (autumn in the southern hemisphere), where vernal is from the Latin word “spring.” Today, we will basically have an equal amount of daytime and nighttime. After that, look for longer days, shorter nights...and hopefully, warmer temperatures. #spring #equinox #vernalequinox #seasons
Galaxy season is here and one of my favourites to capture is the Whirlpool #galaxy (M51) in Canes Venatici. One of the most beautiful face-on spiral galaxies out there. 3.5hrs of combined LRGB for this one, captured on 03/13/23 from windy, cloudy, Clarke’s Beach NL, 🇨🇦. #astrophotography #nlwx #Astrodon

I managed to grab a quick~ish image of the M45 Pleiades cluster last night before the moon rose. It's been a long time since I've been able to do some proper imaging, so it was nice to get this.
