Down at Nobles Quay on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland this evening as the sun dipped behind the bridges connecting the north and south banks a little further upstream.
It was the perfect end to what has been a lovely spring-like day, which perhaps is not too surprising seeing as how spring officially arrives this coming Friday.

How it feels to be in the drawing while drawing in a public. The process experience from within.

At the beginning of the performance , I have made a long line on my centreline. At the end, a red alarm button. I stepped into a cylindrical shape of cardboard with each leg, pulled a corrugated sheet with a circle opening over my body and placed a white cardboard cylindrical shape across my head. Sliding slowly, I began to move forward. The alarm button scuffed across the bricks. In each hand a black felt-tip pen of various thicknesses. I listened to the sounds of other performers and passers-by. I responded by drawing with two hands simultaneously on the white round shapes my body was now trapped in.

Out of the corner of my eye to the left, I saw someone rocking a small treetrunck. I was rocking along while drawing. Behind me, while walking by, I heard someone reciting a poem. I listened attentively and moved my felt-tip pens to the sounds. To the right, I saw and heard a coloured paper festive garland rustling. The figure tangled in the line. In the distance tapping and hammering. While drawing, my master cylinder spun. I see letters on poles. A passer-by asks to press the red button. I say yes. What happens then he asks. Nobody knows I say. He presses the button and I sign. His young children now want to press the button too. The youngest wants to too. Only when I draw a heart does the older sister also want to. The man explains to his family what I am doing. They are reassured. I am not. I move further sliding and find my concentration again.

Catching the remains of the day as the spring equinox approaches, Sunderland's former Holy Trinity Parish Church.
It originally opened in 1719 for the then newly created Parish of Sunderland.
The church stood as the focal point for the community until population changes forced its closure in 1988.
It was subsequently looked after by the Churches Conservation Trust and recently underwent a major restoration project to secure its future a cultural hub.
Re-branded as 'Seventeen Nineteen', it is now enjoying a new lease of life as a cultural arts centre and performance space.
