#WestNileVirus causes symptoms similar to flu. There is no cure for it nor is there a vaccine. It doesn't kill many people (400 is "not many"), but if you are immuno-compromised in any way, you would want to avoid it.
"Mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus have been detected near your neighborhood. To reduce the threat to you and your family, the County of Santa Clara Vector Control District will be reducing the mosquito population within the 94301, 94304, 94305, and 94306 ZIP Codes. The localized treatment will use truck-mounted equipment and is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 27 around 10 p.m., and last approximately four hours.
There is no need to relocate during the treatment, but those who wish to minimize exposure for family members or pets may choose to close windows and remain inside during the scheduled time period."

@inthehands WOW! This will truly make a huge difference for every child in the state 💜 I would expect that they will see returns in the form of greatly improved test scores since hungry children don't do as well in a learning environment.
This should be a federal program so that no school age child goes hungry. 🙂

I noticed that my Opuntia azurea (commonly known as Purple prickly pear) is in bloom! I haven't managed to catch this one in bloom before. Lots of cactus flowers only last a day so if you miss them you're out of luck for another year.
