#WestNileVirus causes symptoms similar to flu. There is no cure for it nor is there a vaccine. It doesn't kill many people (400 is "not many"), but if you are immuno-compromised in any way, you would want to avoid it.

"Mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus have been detected near your neighborhood. To reduce the threat to you and your family, the County of Santa Clara Vector Control District will be reducing the mosquito population within the 94301, 94304, 94305, and 94306 ZIP Codes. The localized treatment will use truck-mounted equipment and is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 27 around 10 p.m., and last approximately four hours.

There is no need to relocate during the treatment, but those who wish to minimize exposure for family members or pets may choose to close windows and remain inside during the scheduled time period."

South San Jose people, the police have Capitol expressway eastbound shut down from Vistapark to Snell avenue. Avoid any of those intersections if you can.

I noticed that my Opuntia azurea (commonly known as Purple prickly pear) is in bloom! I haven't managed to catch this one in bloom before. Lots of cactus flowers only last a day so if you miss them you're out of luck for another year.

Hey #SanJose! Whatcha doin' on June 11th?

#VivaCalle is back with a east/west route through the middle of downtown San Jose. Between #RooseveltPark and #BascomAve this a super flat, easy route. 4.8 miles along which you get a great snapshot of downtown, including #CityHall and so many great food businesses to keep you fueled up.

I have done this event before and it's super fun! A third event is planned for September 10th. If you can't make this one.

Normally, I would only get to see this area while road biking through. Today, a #DoorDash delivery took me through to shortcut my way back to Santa Teresa.
