After guns passed cars as the #1 killer of American children, a number of celebrities have posted anti-gun statements referencing that fact. I'm pretty anti-gun, so I agree with the sentiment, but I can't help but notice nobody was sounding the klaxon when it was cars that were killing kids. "Well, of COURSE you can't do anything about cars..." you can almost hear them saying.

I guess it's a radical position, but I'm opposed to preventable death of kids, regardless of cause.

NYC has 6,300 miles of streets, which is at least 19,000 lane miles for cars. There are about 200 miles of separated bike lanes, so calling in a "tiny bit" is a bit unfair.

I have been telling people for about 14 years to never, ever provide your DNA to a commercial firm. If you need a medical DNA test, do it only through your doc with a certified medical lab.

Police Are Getting DNA Data From People Who Think They Opted Out - Forensic genetic genealogists skirted GEDmatch privacy rules by searching users who explicitly opted out of sharing DNA with law enforcement. #privacy #DNA

You may have noticed I've been in the woods a lot lately. The way I see it, if you have an opportunity to go into the woods, you take it.

I hope we’ll eventually get new sci-fi TV shows that are located in space and not part of the following franchises: Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, Babylon 5, Expanse, Marvel, DC

I like all of them, but I’m also looking forward to seeing something that’s completely new. The last shows that fit this criterion, that I’m aware of, were: β€œDark matter” (S1), β€œKilljoys”, β€œFoundation”. I can recommend all of them.

Sadly it seems that the ICF didn't see the women's division as a way of affirming that women should participate and providing a more welcoming space to do so as the number of women would grow (and drift off into the open division as already happened with the top female players)

No, these big-brain chess boys really thought that it was a biological handicap they were running! So, given that maybe scrap the whole thing. Scrap the ICF. Throw the whole chess set out and start over.

It’s weird to me when people frame calls for bike-friendly infrastructure as in conflict with disability accommodation. Make a city good for biking requires lots of smooth curbless bike paths that are perfect for mobility scooters, much better than trying to use your scooter on the road or the sidewalk. I see people zipping around on their mobility scooters everywhere in Amsterdam. They also have these tiny little cars for people with disabilities that are allowed to use all bike infrastructure
