@indiewebadmin @downey first off, thanks for taking the time to engage with this. I understand the risk of defining everything explicitly and why an org might not want to.

I'm just glad to see you the thought process, I really do appreciate you engaging here with me on this.

Jeff Bezos threats to buy Conde Nast should absolutely be taken seriously.

It would give him control over a number of media outlets that are strong voices in opposition of fascism (like Wired and Teen Vogue)

Under the oligarchs control they would be forced to become right wing propaganda.

Now more than ever we must support independent journalists… many of whom are speaking truth to power despite the personal risk.

If you can boycott Amazon, please do it. Send a strong message with your wallet that you don’t support fascism or the billionaire class.

If you can’t boycott, please don’t feel guilty. Many disabled people and those in poverty may be reliant on Amazon for supplies they can’t get elsewhere.

Trust that your community is boycotting on your behalf.

We’ve got you, and you need to take care of yourself in order to survive.

No guilt. We all resist in whatever way we can.

@indiewebadmin @downey my concern is just that we don't loosen policies because we aren't explicitly naming prohibited actions. For example "gender" is kind of a bland and broad category where as before the server rules explicitly prohibited dead naming and misgendering. I "think economic or social origin" is supposed to be akin to casteism but I admit I'm pretty naive on that topic.
@matuzo Sleepytime and Rug Island are real in your feels

One of the fun little unintended consequences of building Kelp UI has been (re)discovering how much I love frontend architecture, testing, and writing docs.

So much so that I'm now offering and entire consulting service around it: https://gomakethings.com/work/

(Booking out in October at this point!)

@cferdinandi ...but sometimes there really are no other words you can use

Ex-farm worker here.

We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.

Not true AT ALL.

Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.

The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.

At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

A free and opensource developer begs Mozilla: “Please, let me pay for Firefox” and he’s got a good point imo. #Firefox #Browser #Mozilla #OpenSource https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/let-me-pay-for-firefox/141297 - Community Portal - Mozilla Discourse
Let me pay for Firefox!

Sometimes, I feel a strong desire to pay for brilliant software, but if a free option exists, I often end up using it—even though I benefit greatly from these tools. But I support those software providers express their values, or encouraging more people to join the cause of freedom,or charge, or just add some ads.

Let’s put this to bed.

Battle for Wesnoth is probably the most advanced open source game to date. If you're into turn-based strategy games, definitely download it for your distro. And they're looking for more maintainers btw!

@eugenialoli
I wouldn't call it the most advanced. I'm not well versed in open source games but surely there's something more advanced than a turn based strategy with it's core mechanics designed in the early 2000s.

One could make a argument that it's advanced because of it's impressive expandability and modability, but from that lens it's more of a game engine and would lose to Godot.

That said.... It's a fantastic game and everyone should try it.
