Jeff Bezos threats to buy Conde Nast should absolutely be taken seriously.

It would give him control over a number of media outlets that are strong voices in opposition of fascism (like Wired and Teen Vogue)

Under the oligarchs control they would be forced to become right wing propaganda.

Now more than ever we must support independent journalists… many of whom are speaking truth to power despite the personal risk.

If you can boycott Amazon, please do it. Send a strong message with your wallet that you don’t support fascism or the billionaire class.

If you can’t boycott, please don’t feel guilty. Many disabled people and those in poverty may be reliant on Amazon for supplies they can’t get elsewhere.

Trust that your community is boycotting on your behalf.

We’ve got you, and you need to take care of yourself in order to survive.

No guilt. We all resist in whatever way we can.

@broadwaybabyto Bezos really out here showing his whole BvS Lex Luthor ass.

What a coincidence that Wired and Teen Vogue have been one of the few mainstream outlets to criticize Trump's technogarchy regime...NOT!

@broadwaybabyto advance publications, Condé Nast's parent company, is also Reddit's largest shareholder.
@broadwaybabyto @cykonot
And Advance Publications is a major shareholder in Warner Bros, which owns HBO…
Which I’m sure has nothing to do with supposedly liberal Teen Vogue, owned by Condé Nast/Advanced Publications consistently peddling HP crap to an audience that’s at best disinterested if not outright hostile.
@broadwaybabyto Remember to thank Slick Willie Clinton for signing the Telecom Act of 1994 opening the floodgates to corporate/billionaire ownership of entire media markets.
@Fat_Farang @broadwaybabyto yeah, Ronald Reagan gets credit for accelerating the destruction of the country (rightly so) but Clinton really should be given credit for accelerating the destruction of opposition to it
@broadwaybabyto boosting because I like your attitude. I've been boycotting Amazon for a while. If I could boycott them twice, I would.

@broadwaybabyto Yes, do what you can. 👍 😀

...

Does anyone have a guillotine in the garage? They were designed to deal with the super-rich, yes? <only partly joking> 😮

@broadwaybabyto
Condé Nast also owns:
Ars Technica & The New Yorker, two publications that haven't bent the knee to The Orange Oaf.

@thomascoven @broadwaybabyto Ars Technica hasn't been doing its job evenly.

Notably, Eric berger has been caught being quite uncritical of Elon Musk, and another reporter has spouted transphobic propaganda. Lastly, its moderation has really degraded, and has often been letting right wing troll get away and banned their contradictors.

Beth Mole is still top notch though.

@Sobex Yeah the way otherwise excellent space tech reporters tap dance to avoid talking about fascism, for access & to avoid controversy w/their audiences (see also #ScottManley & #EverydayAstronaut)… Otherwise great reporting, but we passed the “which side are you on?” point a long time ago.
@Sobex @broadwaybabyto
They still lambast Musk's various projects from time to time - it's more suble than some would like but it's definitely there.
And the Comments Section doesn't mince words, nor has it been sanitised as much as so many others.

@broadwaybabyto

I boycotted walmart until Bezosbub raised the bar on evil.

Now I order from walmart.com. Free shipping over $35.

@broadwaybabyto Both me and my husband have cancelled Prime.

@broadwaybabyto

Teen Vogue has gotten under his skin that bad, huh...

@broadwaybabyto Their labor practices are also a great reason to boycott them.

@broadwaybabyto

Oligarchy cannot stand any opposition to its rule. Bezos and Co. are no better than Russian, Pakistani or Indian oligarchs among others. They elected their puppet regime, control the economy and squash any dissent voices in society. We are experiencing that overtly since the heyday of the Morgans and Co. in 19th c.It took two world wars to beat them back somewhat. They now know that a world war is out of question, thus the flexing of power under their puppet president.

@broadwaybabyto If he did buy Condé Nast, that would be very much in the pattern of Hungary, where Orbán's oligarchs took over the media to shut down opposition.

Once we restore democracy, we have to make things so that billionaires can't exist.

@broadwaybabyto
Got rid of my prime account. Bezo has enough of my money.
@broadwaybabyto Mckenzie Scott has a chance to do something hilarious right now
@broadwaybabyto Those that own the media control the propaganda.

@broadwaybabyto

If you don't think boycotts work, take a look at the US States trying to win Canadians back.

This Canadian has been boycotting Amazon since it kicked its unionized Quebec workers into unemployment and then Bezos attended the inauguration, supporting Trump's attacks on Canada and its sovereignty.

@broadwaybabyto

I'm a subcontractor (vendor) with a local newspaper called #StreetRoots. They often publish great news but they sell all data including vendors data like SSNs to Google with the Google docs.

Oh, BTW, the staff just went Union 🙀😱😡

At one time, they listened to the vendors but not anymore. I keep telling them, I would build a system for them for free but they seem to think I'm fucking funny.
