Some people who keep talking about "the west" and "western values" here and there fail to understand that one of the most profound and simple values learned from studying western classical texts is this: the rejection of arbitrary cruelty in all its forms. If one does not understand this, one does not really understand what "the west" is really about. Many politicians (and tech-bros) today would fall on the "barbarian" side of history.
