Excited to read about the new, exciting INV flavour being characterised - the molecular Skittles that will respond if you eat too many macroscopic Skittles đŸ’Ș🌈

Ahh it’s been nearly 10 years since Foals released ‘What Went Down’ - still one of my all time favourite albums!

‘Give It All’ was the soundtrack to much all-consuming teenage heartbreak and listening to it now always takes me back to a time when all the feelings were at 100% đŸŽ”đŸ–€đŸ€˜

đŸŽ¶ See you there, wanna see you some day, as you look back, I'm pulling away, you caught the bus and I caught the train, all that remains are words in the raaaaain đŸŽ¶

I made a serendipitous discovery of this beautiful Henrietta Lacks statue in Bristol yesterday, whose cells I put through so many manipulations during my MPhil and PhD. I also loved that the plants in the surrounding garden were chosen for their connections to her story, with Everlasting Flower (https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:213364-1) being a particularly poignant choice. It’s mind-blowing to think of how many labs across the world are using her cells to make discoveries and she died having no idea of this.

The funniest thing about this is that the affected wall is opposite one of my neighbours’ front gardens. One of the people who lives there comes out of his house several times a day to smoke (and occasionally sets his lawn on fire with the cigarette ash) and this graffiti is directly in his field of view during his smoke breaks. He already looks like the “Ben Affleck smoking meme” a lot of the time - don’t think this will make him any happier.

I wonder if the graffiti is targetting him? 😂

This graffiti appeared on a wall around the corner from my flat over the weekend (photo 1).

Unlike the landscapes of my childhood (photo 2), it’s unusual occurrence for the sleepy little town I live in, where the habitants’ average age is probably 60+, “foreign-looking” van drivers occasionally arouse suspicion on local social media groups and egging of houses on Halloween is - fortunately - the extent of anti-social behaviour.

What do you think it means? đŸ€”

A riddle for Golgi Day: how many Golgis can you spot in this photo? #membranetraffic #CellBiology

I loved seeing these cute lambs at a nearby farm these weekend, as a bonus to picking-up locally-grown, seasonal flowers, which I enjoyed arranging.

I feel like an often joked about “escape from academia” is opening a bakery, but mine would definitely be starting a flower farm/floristry business. A frilly cherry blossom tree would be a must on my imaginary farm
I dream of this while I toil away at my thesis corrections.

It’s my favourite time of the year! đŸŒžâ˜€ïž
I’ve been loving seeing blossoming trees on my walks/runs in the last couple of weeks!

#Magnolias are some of my favourite spring flowers because seeing them always takes me back to the Magnolia Garden of the O.V. Fomin Botanical Garden in Kyiv, where I really enjoyed going for walks with my grandparents *and* the magnoliid clade is evolutionary ancient, so, it’s cool to think about dinosaurs walking among the ancestors of these trees!

We received this payment card protector to incentivise us to take part in an Office for National Statistics Crime survey.
I said, ‘ah they’ve used the classic Biorender concentric-ring endoplasmic reticulum icon as their logo.’
My partner responded, ‘I think that’s meant to be a finger print because it talks about protecting your identity.’
Only the real ones would understand

I finally saw a majestic male mandarin duck at Golden Acre Park in Leeds today after being on the lookout of them for years! It may be an introduced species in the UK, but what a beauty it is!
