Hobbyist sound engineer turning professional. Toon (Newcastle-Upon-Tyne) dweller.

Interested in almost anything but especially sound, radio, the open web, programming, linguistics, information architecture and Ecclesiastical architecture/history of the Church. I'm a bit of a nerd now I think about it...

Out mobile in #newcastleupontyne this morning trialing #meshcore. Got gloriously muddy but sadly no stations to be heard. Tried all different #LoRa settings, checked public map etc. I've been trying for weeks from home QTH with a router node and a client. This node will be going back to #meshtastic for the time being; working is better than perfect. I'd really like to get a #reticulum network going in the North East, if anyone is up for trialing stuff, send me a message!
Step 1 on the #qrp_labs #qmx+ done! All 12 diodes in place. Since last post I've bought some snips which have let me solve the problem of the #solder coming too high off the board and bridging to the metal case. I've also bought a desoldering pump which is extremely useful! There were some very close proximity pads, but nothing has shorted electrically that couldn't be removed and redone. Happy so far... but #toroids next (I think)... eek! #circuit #electronics #amateur_radio #ham_radio
I've just started the #QRP_labs #qmx+ transceiver kit. I've not done all that much soldering before so this is a big challenge for me, but this is the first three diodes in with no shorts or dry joints as far as I can see. I'm starting to feel like I have better control over the iron and my technique has improved on each of the diodes thus far. I'll keep updating this with the progress!
The shack for this afternoon was Weetslade hill, North Tyneside, operating as M7XXI/P on the SlimJim and the Baofeng. I was putting out calls on #2meters and #meshtastic, and whilst I only got one call back I did have a few chats to members of the public about ham radio which I always enjoy. That antenna is a good conversation starter! The hill itself is an old spoil heap from when Newcastle supplied coal to the world, but now it's a lovely (and cold!) nature reserve with views in all directions
Hello! I'm Tom, M7XXI on the radio. I am interested in lots of things, but on the radio I'm often on #2Metres and #70cmBand, and I run a few #meshtastic stations, details on tomprobyn.uk/radio. Outside of radio, I'm a hobbyist #soundengineer, currently in the process of becoming professional. I normally write about things I am interested in, including sound, radio, the open web, programming, linguistics, information architecture and Ecclesiastical architecture. #introduction
