The canadian federal government is going to be terminating public weatherradio broadcasts and emergency alerts on March 16th, 2026.

This is very bad. Cell & Internet emergency alerts have been dubiously reliable, and countless people in rural areas still rely on weatherradio for emergency alerts. What can we do to stop this? We can't let austerity cuts get in the way of life safety and emergency preparedness.

Environment Canada’s Weatheradio network broadcasts weather warnings and current observations and forecasts using the VHF public radio band, 24/7. Within range of more than 90 percent of the population, Weatheradio can be heard on special receivers and, in some areas, on ordinary AM/FM radio.

Well what do you know – The Electronics Flea Market (EFM) has moved back to Saturday mornings and if you park in lot 2 it is free. Looks as we get to share the campus with the farmer’s market, so I get to peruse fruit & veg for the week and get my nerd on. Hopefully I will find another security appliance from a vendor I do not have yet for my test rack in the garage.

I cannot recommend enough how useful the course is to teach you CW, how to make QSOs, and in the process introduce you to a whole crowd of new friends with the same interests.There are different levels depending on your starting point. Step 1 on the #qrp_labs #qmx+ done! All 12 diodes in place. Since last post I've bought some snips which have let me solve the problem of the #solder coming too high off the board and bridging to the metal case. I've also bought a desoldering pump which is extremely useful! There were some very close proximity pads, but nothing has shorted electrically that couldn't be removed and redone. Happy so far... but #toroids next (I think)... eek! #circuit #electronics #amateur_radio #ham_radio
