annoyingly pushing for a more federated just world

I'm not an expert at anything, but I care. I like bottom-up power structures.

trade is not the problem. exploitation and wealth inequality is the problem.
It's gonna be wild when discord finally runs out of VC money and 10 years of conversation history and random file uploads are lost forever.

@djsundog and I are launching a project to build federated, open source, #bandcamp alternative.

We're building this because we need it. We're doing it ourselves because it will become a part of the larger media production and distribution ecosystem we have planned.

We welcome other open source projects, and we might even contribute to a few of them, but for the next several months, this is our full time gig.

Mountain Town Technology is building the future of media production.

Fediverse bandcamp please.

I will give any developer a free outline of how to build this so DIY musicians and artists and small labels will actually use it and benefit from it. I will also administer an instance. Hell I'll administer your flagship instance if you want.

(don't answer with Funkwhale unless Funkwhale has had a major update because a stand-in for bandcamp, it is not.)

Anyone know of a good way to cross post with kolektiva, bsky and threads? Need something like that for when reporting live on the ground.. at least during this weird stage of not knowing which platform is going to be the most useful alternative to bird app.

"NYC Mesh is the brainchild of a bunch of ex-Charter (Spectrum) employees who got unceremoniously shitcanned after participating in what was one of the longest ongoing strikes in U.S. history. They funneled their angst into a sort of guerilla activist project that installs wireless mesh networking antennas and routers on the top of buildings to deliver affordable (sometimes free) broadband."

"This is great! Just for the record though, there's a comment on that article by "Brian Hall, one of the lead volunteers and founders of NYC Mesh" which explains, " Error in Techdirt article. We formed 9 years ago, which was way before the Spectrum strike. The enemy in those days was Time Warner Cable. The strikers have their own separate organization." "

A Volunteer Army Is Deploying Dirt Cheap Broadband In NYC

A few years ago during one of our Greenhouse forums, activist Terique Boyce wrote about how an all-volunteer army had been spending their days deploying free broadband to NYC residents. It’s …

Honey bees get all the hype, but it's our little native bees that really need help. https://modernfarmer.com/2023/09/are-we-backing-the-wrong-bee/
Are We Backing the Wrong Bee?

Dr. Jim Cane is out in the squash fields before the sun peeks out over the eastern horizon. He knows that if he starts early, he can find male squash bees sleeping within the collapsed husks of yesterday’s squash flowers. Cane is a research entomologist. He’s spent much of his career as a bee specialist with the US Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service and he’s an authority on the agricultural benefits of many of the 3,600 diverse species of wild, native bees, including squash bees. Male squash bees are ready at first light to greet females as they emerge
