On the other end of the scale, He Fucked the Girl Out of Me by https://mastodon.social/@taylormccue was a jarring and touching game. It recounts the author's deeply personal experiences and effects of her being pressured into engaging in sex work, and how it halted her process of transitioning for several years.

(the TV used for displaying the game in the US became quite famous as it was a roadside find that fans of the game transported to the expo. Not this TV tho!)

After Marika's Ph.D defence and subsequent party (congrats!) I took a quick trip over the bridge to #Copenhagen. I visited the feel shops of Faraos Cigarer but the real highlight was going to #cphdox and their Interactive exhibit with #VR, #AR and game artworks.

The game WE ARE HERE BECAUSE OF THOSE THAT ARE NOT by https://instagram.com/ladydangfua was a highlight, providing a trip into an utopian digital world where the needs of #trans people (of color) are (for once) met.

On my way to #Malmö for my friend and long-time collaborator Marika Hedemyr's Ph.D dissertation defence https://mau.se/en/calendar/disputation--marika-hedemyr/

It centers around three of our collaborative works, the mixed reality walks Next to You at Korsvägen, ENTER Mölndal Kvarnbyn and ENTER Mölndal Tulebosjön. #AR #MR

In 1977, my wife Annie and I opened the first public access microcomputer center. The Marin Computer Center was a nonprofit org in a library of a repurposed elementary school. We started with 9 Processor Technology Sol-20s and one Equinox. Eventually we had 40 micros (Atari, Apple II, TRS-80, Pet) people could rent for $1.50/hr. So many Marin kids got turned onto computers and went on to do great things. Jump to page 7 of this 1978 People’s Computers article by Annie

TTRPG Character Study

We are researchers from Northeastern University studying the experience of queer play and creation of queer characters in TTRPGs (Table top role playing games) (such as D&D, Cyberpunk Red, etc.). We are looking for people (18+) who have created a queer character or a character that has served for queer exploration in any table top role playing game to participate in a 1-hour video conference (Zoom) interview to share their experiences with their TTRPG characters and walk us through their character creation process. Participants will receive $20 (via Venmo, CashApp, or PayPal) for their time. This is a short survey designed to determine your eligibility to participate in our interview study. Your participation in this screening survey will be handled in a confidential manner. If you are ineligible or do not end up participating, your screening survey will not be retained by the researchers. This study has been reviewed and approved by the Northeastern University Institutional Review Board (#22-10-18). To express your interest, answer the questions and submit your email below. If you are eligible we will be in touch via email regarding scheduling.

I've spent most of my life struggling financially, and honestly it makes me kind of angry how some of these things I can afford now help me. (Though, again, I did not buy *myself* a goofy Facebook helmet.) Smart watches should be covered medical devices for dealing with ADHD. Even basic VR is good for anxiety and PTSD. People do not only deserve these things if they can claw their way to a mid-range skilled salary position. #disability
Apropos of nothing: I was given one of those Meta Quest 2 headsets as a holiday thing December before last and I don't use it often, but the one thing I do use it for is managing anxiety and, occasionally, trauma. Last summer I had a pretty traumatic day with the cat rescue, and I genuinely think playing VR Tetris that night helped prevent it from becoming weeks of horrible intrusive thoughts and memories.

From the promised land of maker culture. My friend and colleague Patrik has dug time into developing his own analog digital camera based on Raspberry Pi and old camera lenses from the Soviet Union, this one from 1967. This open source digital camera produces images with a clear retro feeling and a rather unique section. Here are a couple of pictures with the camera, and a link for those who want to dig a little into the project.

CineMate – a manual 16mm digital film camera

CineMate Python scripts is a way for users to implement and customize manual controls for their cinepi-raw build. Project aims at offering an easy way to build a custom camera. For basic operation and experimentation, only Raspberry Pi, camera board and monitor is needed. For practical use, buttons and switches can easily be added, allowing for a custom build.
