#Introduction Hi plastic nerds and podcast friends, great to join you here in the Fediverse!

This #podcast is about our strange, complicated relationship with a group of mighty materials called #plastic. #Plastics enable the modern world, but also cause some serious #pollution. What's the state of #science about the impacts on the #environment, #climate and human #health? How do we change our relationship to plastics?

Those are questions I explore in this slow media series. Join me!

#Climate #collapse #extinction
The 6th great extinction is ongoing, the collapse of global industrial civilization is ongoing, the end of our legacy as humans creating art and science is ongoing, and every bit of it is terribly sad.

But sadness is a greater motivator than hope. All hope does is to give us an excuse to believe someone else is taking care of things. Knowing we are doomed gets me active, to save what I can for whatever comes next, and this is what I focus on every day.

I took a relatively large step (for me) and self-published my poetry on my web site, with a link from the front page. #Poetry is personal and always feels like people won’t appreciate that piece of you; but I think my poems are quite good to be honest. I’m proud of them and I think they’ve got some universality and make you think.

So I present to you the most recent, which drove me to do this (because I like it, and hope you do too): “To Build a Fire.” #PoetryCommunity https://www.trisweb.com/poetry/mine/tobuildafire.html

To Build a Fire

Poem by Tristan Harward

I used to try to 'solve' each day, and to 'push through' and get everything done. But it used to break *me*.

Now I try to be more like constant drops of water. Be patient. You can wear away at the task of life. You don't need to try to break your head breaking through.

Why fossil fuel companies have spent far more money on ‘blame marketing’ – pushing the idea of individual responsibility – than they ever have on renewable solutions.

Re-framing plastics pollution to include social, ecological and policy perspectives - Nature Reviews Earth & Environment

Plastic pollution is widely presented as a waste problem, resulting in proposed solutions that target end-of-life waste management and consumer behaviour. This framing misrepresents the entangled global social and ecological challenges of the plastic crisis, which must be recognised for effective, equitable and sustainable responses.
