While sites like https://jointhefediverse.net can be great at explaining basic concepts behind the fediverse, for most people, this can be all a bit overwhelming.

The best way to get people interested is to promote your own community. Show people where to sign up, which apps to use, and who to follow.

My latest project can help you with that.

“Books are to be call'd for, and supplied, on the assumption that the process of reading is not a half-sleep, but, in highest sense, an exercise, a gymnast's struggle; that the reader is to do something for himself, must be on the alert, must himself or herself construct indeed the poem, argument, history, metaphysical essay-the text furnishing the hints, the clue, the start or framework. It doesn’t matter if the next version of the printer can print out those stickers faster, or if it can format the text in bold red capital letters instead of small black ones. Those are indicators that you have a more capable printer but not indicators that it is any closer to actually feeling anything.”*

First day of my class CS181 - Machine Learning, in 2014. The Professor said, "Machine learning is just statistics reinvented by computer scientists".

I wish people would stop using 'learning' and 'intelligence' to describe these algorithms. That are merely probability distributions fitted to data. It is a natural progression of statistics not biological intelligence.
