I am a caregiver in East Texas living a rather isolated life, so for now the fediverse is my window to humanity. If you want someone to chat with, feel free to reach out to me because I do enjoy spontaneous conversations. I love technology and making things by hand. I care deeply about humanity and the environment. I especially love learning about different cultures and cuisines, so I tend to follow accounts from all over the world that I come across just so I can learn more about people everywhere.
Important question for Sharkey Admins

Hi all! If you own or administrate a Sharkey instance, then I've got an important question for you. Over the last two weeks, have you experienced any unexpected crashes or restarts accompanied by a log message reading:
[core] The process is going to exit with code 0?

If so, then please reach out! We're investigating a possible bug that none of our development team can reproduce. It would help us greatly if you could answer the poll below,
even/especially if you haven't experienced a crash!

Boosts would be greatly appreciated, and thanks so much in advance!

Hey Mastodon let’s have a shot at this #introduction thing

My name is Dale, I’m a landscape #photographer from the East Coast of Australia

I mainly capture #nature & #landscape images from the Aussie Alps (yep it's a thing) & New Zealand - I love a good adventure & half the fun of what I do is working out how to get to & survive being in the middle of nowhere

Here are a few of my fav pics taken over the last couple of years...

Cheers!

Every once in a while the planets align, the cell phone cooperates, and the colors show pretty true to life.... voila... a goodnight #sunset from the #Arizona high desert! 😎

Right now the US Supreme Court is listening to arguments from Florida and Texas on whether the states can essentially force social media platforms to host right wing extreme speech. So far the argument seems to boil down to questions about whether social media sites are common carriers like phone companies that facilitate communication between individuals or whether they are more akin to newspapers with editorial curation policies and practices. Section 230 has been brought up a lot here. The tide pods contest was just mentioned. 👀

I am listening
on CSPAN but I don’t have legal experience, curious to see what the experts will say about how these arguments went today.
It is fascinating to see how many things are subject to lighter punishments than drug trafficking. This morning I learned that international trafficking in nuclear materials (for weapons development) caps out at a 20 year maximum sentence, while the narcotics charges in the same case carry up to a sentence of life in prison. www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/us-attorney-announces-nuclear-materials-trafficking-charges-against-japanese-yakuza
U.S. Attorney Announces Nuclear Materials Trafficking Charges Against Japanese Yakuza Leader

Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York; Matthew G. Olsen, the Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s National Security Division; and Anne Milgram, the Administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”), announced the issuance today of a Superseding Indictment charging TAKESHI EBISAWA with conspiring with a network of associates to traffic nuclear materials from Burma to other countries.

We’ve just published an update about this Mastodon trial which has been running for the last 6 months – you can read it here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2024-02-extending-our-mastodon-social-media-trial

We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.
