#Shavuot’s tomorrow night. Who had the cheesecake?
Exhausted
1/ At my last synagogue and before meeting my wife, I used to sit with my parents on one side and two elderly women (Phyllis and June) on the other. Phyllis’s son let me know she’s now on hospice and she only has a few weeks at most to live. My father and I visited her yesterday and although she is on oxygen and has little strength,
2/ she giggled when we showed up. I was reminded of the #Jewish mitzvah (commandment) to visit the ill. I was glad I had an opportunity to see her and give some comfort to her son. While we were there, he asked if I’d be a pallbearer for his mother’s funeral. I told him it would be an honor.
