Very sad news about the death of Doddie Weir at just 52. I met him at Melrose in the early 1990s when he was only 21/22 and we hit it off, as most people did with this blithe lad. One thing we shouldn’t forget is that Doddie was a genuinely world-class rugby player who moved effortlessly to Newcastle Falcons, alongside Jonny Wilkinson, Va’aiga Tuigamala, Pat Lam, Gary Armstrong….great players all. He fought wonderfully hard against MND, but illness shouldn’t define him. He was a star!
