On this third night of Hanukkah, I was pleased to attend a special menorah lighting along with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and Greater Cleveland community members from all faiths.

Tonight, we shed light on rising antisemitism and its danger to our community, and joined together to celebrate in the spirit of the holiday season. #SHINEALIGHT 🕎

Twitter suspends Mastodon account, prevents sharing links

On Dec 16, Twitter suspended our @joinmastodon account after we shared a link to the newly registered Mastodon account of @ElonJet, an account that broadcasts public flight path data of Elon Musk’s private jet, which was previously suspended from Twitter itself. At the same time, accounts of multiple journalists from major publications such as CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, as well as various independent journalists, were likewise suspended for either linking to the account itself or talking about the event.

Everybody's gonna find their own way on here, but in case helpful to any other relative newcomers...

I had avoided using tools like Movetodon that let you easily follow all your Twitter follows, bc I wanted to start fresh.

But I was finding it a bit quiet, so today I used Movetodon and sorted the list to show the most recently active users at the top. I selectively followed about 100 of those, and now my Mastodon feed is much livelier. https://www.movetodon.org/

We wrote a big story in October about how TikTok's Chinese connections (and Republicans' eagerness to look tough on tech) made it into a political football: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/interactive/2022/bytedance-tiktok-privacy-china/

In March, @taylorlorenz and I scooped that the company formerly known as Facebook was funding a Republican lobbying firm's mud-slinging campaign calling TikTok a grave societal threat: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/03/30/facebook-tiktok-targeted-victory/

Lack of TikTok regulation stirs angst in Washington over privacy risks

TikTok’s link to China has sparked fears over propaganda and privacy. It’s also exposed America’s failure to safeguard the web.

I was on the impeachment team after January 6 and I saw Donald Trump's guilt firsthand.

Trump pledged to defend our Republic. Instead, he incited a mob to storm the Capitol and left everyone inside for dead.

Now, @TheJusticeDept must ensure that justice is served. No one is above the law.

Few quick Mastodon tweaks I like:

* Settings > "Enable advanced web interface" is Tweetdeck and works really well.

* In your notification column, turn off all the "Play sound" toggles and turn on the "show filter bar" to be able to see favorites, follows, etc. by type.

* The web app is good! The official mobile app's not bad, either. But there are a lot of app options with different flavors worth trying out. Toot is popular on iOS. On Android, I use Yuito: https://bit.ly/3jjtzif

It is a client application for comfortable use of decentralized SNS such as Mastodon, Pleroma, Pixelfed.

Work from home has been a huge boon to employment access for disabled people.

“The jobless rate for disabled workers — typically in double digits and 12.3% two years ago — dropped to 5.8% in November … the lowest rate for people with disabilities since record-keeping began in 2008.”

#Trump 's #NFT sale was structured to launder money. No single person/household could buy more than $9990 worth of NFT's. Just below the IRS's reporting threshold. And of course, no sales tax on digital goods.
