@Imogen
So glad youāve got loads of projects on the agenda.! Iāll look forward to reading about your endeavors and the book writing š
Whilst it pains me that Iām most likely gonna lose contact with some online friends, I also recognize now how important it is for our mental well being to have āoutside mediaā friends and interests.
I know itās going to be very hard for some people whose only contact with the world is via online. And if theyāve invested it all at the other place, I do worry for them, so Iām trying to sense those that might need help to get to a place where theyāre accepted and feel supported.
Hopefully we can build new villages that are more caring than the other joint.
Lotsa love ā£ļøš«š·
Itās the right thing to do. You know this. How do I know that? Because thereās no way you would be able to live with this punitive and abusive exploitation encouraging and ensuring system. That you have the power to change this and do something and havenāt t get is damning and terrifying.
I think this system wants me dead. Thatās what it currently feels like. Appalling lack of care anywhere in sight.
I only got notice to submit this today. Iām even appalled at that. Where is your advertising to get people to contribute to this call? Where? It appears mostly absent and not as though anyone is approaching it with urgency. Where are the radio announcements and calls recently? I have only seen one - today. That was enough.
Raise the rate and look after people - right now social service providers are begging for more help to help people. This is ridiculous. Help people directly.
Housing for all.
Yours sincerely,
Imogen Bunting
How is it we donāt have enough money to raise the rate to the same as for DSP and Carers? And to give JobSeekers the higher income rate of Pensioners before cutting them off JobSeeker? How can we say we are helping people at all?
When the payment is so low it creates situations where people will exploit someone for their gain - their vulnerability and need making this more attractive than alternatives - and seriously, this type of abuse can be called coercive control and is not something any Social Security system should be encouraging - but this low rate of JobSeeker, this low rate of income cap for JobSeeker and this inability to see helping people avoid the loss of their licenses and registrations and homes and medications and food as destructive to lives and assisting of abuse and hardship is the problem.
Not anyone reading this should be unaware of these things. If this is new and you call yourselves experts - wake up - raise the rate - income and earnings caps for those seeking to live and contribute and benefit from this, our Australian Commonwealth.
Jobs are increasingly casual, and the lack of workplace protections for casuals is astounding. This creates enormous room for exploitation. That the tax office isnāt using JobSeeker reports of work income each fortnight to catch and discover cash paying employees is staggeringly shortsighted and to my thinking must be deliberate. The exploitative experience of our social security system for underemployed casuals is abusive. Centrelink staff and Apps created for logging employment income and hours literally REFUSE (they have done for years) to take a ānetā amount in recorded income- they insist on people supplying a gross amount - which if there employer pays them cash they donāt have.
Itās okay says Centrelink and the Tax Office and many staff at Services Australia, just use the ATO online gross tax calculator, enter the cash amount received and this will calculate what the gross should be - and fabricate that lie for government departments. In this way the government is refusing to do all it can to catch tax evading, insurance skipping, health and safety and rights protecting moves that are legally enshrined as workplace rights for Australians - apparently when it comes to JobSeekers and casuals - all bets are off - these can be harmed without recourse, and sent to homelessness and hospital without anyone who SHOULD PROTECT THEM admitting liability and the system suggesting thereās nothing to see here.
RaiseTheRate submission to ACOSS
3 July 2023.
The rate of JobSeeker is so low that it creates barriers to work and abject poverty. It creates homelessness, loads of room for exploitation and abuse and increases depression, anxiety, serious mental anguish and physical pains as healthcare is impossible to receive and pay for when you have no money.
Hello Mastadon. Looks like Twitter is completely bunk for many today. Me too. š Itās been great. Now someone against good democratic debate appears to be hell bent on destroying decency and human connections across the globe. Elon Musk isnāt making sense to me, but if his plan is to destroy good communication between good people - itās working. It should be illegal to do what heās done with a public social media platform. Just shows how bunk privatisation is for end users. So disappointed.
So glad we have this alternative. Thank you Mastadon.
