This is the first photo I took of my new girlfriend in 1993. It’s a bit worn. It was taken with what was already a vintage Polaroid B&W camera from the early 70s that my Dad had passed off to me.
It’s a bit rough, because it spent years in the visor of my truck…but as we close in on our 30th anniversary, it’s all the more meaningful.
I pulled it out because one of my sons came home from the vintage shop with a similar era Polaroid he got for his partner, who’s a photographer.
BBEdit belongs to that very special class of licensed software that you automatically upgrade before reading the release notes.
It was also popular for a short while to use macros to redefine operators using other natural languages. For instance in Finnish one could have had
#define IKISILMUKKA for(;;)
Of course, very quickly people realised that also programmers and not only programs should be portable… In any case, many of our Anglo-American friends often forget that the early exposure to programming concepts is different if the programming languages bear some similarities to one’s native tongue.
I often wear colourful bow ties when I write Fortran. I hope it is acceptable.
